We hope you can join us for our Eco Open Day on Saturday 31 July. The day will be packed full of free, family-friendly creative activities to enjoy including;
- How to create plant dyes for fabrics
- Screen printing an eco-friendly tote bag
- Exploring the local area on a photography walk
- Taking inspiration from nature to make your own ceramic tile
And there’s more!
The Art House has also teamed up with Wakefield Council’s Festival of the Earth, Wakefield BID and the Wakefield Express to celebrate the start of the school holidays with Recycled City, four days of free, eco-themed art activities at The Ridings.
Drop-in at The Ridings and help us to design and build a model of Wakefield city centre, using entirely recycled and eco-friendly materials. Taking inspiration from iconic buildings throughout the city, as well as cutting edge “eco-architecture” from across the globe, participants of all ages will learn how to design and construct model buildings, both real and imagined.
All Recycled City activities will be family-friendly and everyone is welcome to join in the fun, for free, anytime.
Just drop-in and have a go!
Cycle to Culture
Eco Open Day will mark the launch of Wakefield’s first Cycle Station at The Art House – making it easier and more fun to cycle around Wakefield’s cultural gems. As well as more bike parking and a public bike repair stand, we’ll also be launching a new 10% discount in our Coffee House and Shop for anyone who cycles to The Art House.
Plus, you can pick up our new free Cycle to Culture Map of the best routes to cycle between places like The Art House, The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield Cathedral and more designed by our friends at Open to the Public.
And if that wasn’t enough, with your help we will be planting an urban orchard along the front of our building. Once the fruit bushes are established, the orchard will be available for everyone to pick their own fruit right here in the city centre. We can’t wait!
Do I need a ticket?
