May Artwalk

26 May 2021 17:00 - 26 May 2021 21:00

Join us for the first in person Artwalk in over a year! We’re celebrating with the launch of a new exhibition, plus our new Coffee House and Shop will be open especially for the occasion.

What’s on at The Art House

Home, Street, City

Home, Street, City celebrates artwork made by people across Wakefield during the Covid-19 lockdown, exploring experiences and memories of their homes and neighbourhoods.

Brought together from classrooms and hotel rooms, bedroom floors and kitchen tables, posters by pupils from Lawefield Primary School and Urban House will be shown alongside drawings by our Creative Age group who have continued to meet via Zoom during lockdown.

The exhibition will launch to coincide with Artwalk Wakefield in May and will grow to include new work by local artists and Studio of Sanctuary groups which will be unveiled during Refugee Week 2021.

We Make Wakefield

We Make Wakefield is a series of creative projects designed by Wakefield based artists and designers for The Art House’s Studio of Sanctuary programme.

The project encourages children from different migrant backgrounds to start thinking creatively about the district we live in. The second project in the We Make Wakefield series was designed and produced by artist Ellie Way. As part of the project, children were invited to create their own Wakefield poster, inspired by Ellie Way’s own Wakefield Travel Posters.

Head to our gallery space this Artwalk to make your own Wakefield poster, referencing a place that is special to you or taking inspiration from our exhibition of Ellie Way’s travel posters. Suitable for all ages, materials provided by The Art House.
