In this session, hosted via Zoom, Carolyn Mendelsohn will be in Conversation with Angela Sheard, discussing her personal series Being Inbetween – portraits and interviews with girls aged 10-12, exploring the complex transition between childhood and young adulthood, taken over 6 years, her current Impressions Gallery exhibition and book of the work published by Bluecoat Press. The creative process involved and the stories behind the portraits and project.
A Q&A will follow the conversation, where you will have the opportunity to put your questions to Carolyn and Angela.

Carolyn Mendelsohn, Photographer, Filmmaker
Mendelsohn’s work has been published and exhibited internationally on numerous occasions and has won awards such as Portrait of Britain 17/19, Open Walls Arles 2020 and RPS IPE 159. Being Inbetween has been described as “A legacy project that is a representative portrait of our time” (RPS Journal) and “An antidote to the body image pressure girls tend to pick up on at this age.” (Huffington Post).
Bio: Angela Sheard is Associate Curator and Programme Co-ordinator at Impressions Gallery, Bradford, one of the UK’s leading public-funded spaces for photography. In 2017, she curated Field Work, a survey of ten years of work by Liza Dracup, and in 2019 curated Our Plastic Ocean, the first UK touring exhibition of work by internationally acclaimed photographer Mandy Barker. She is currently completing postgraduate studies in Social History of Art at the University of Leeds.
