Graduate Residencies

The residency gave me time to think about my practice and how I want to work as an artist. The four weeks I spent (at The Art House) had a significant positive impact on my practice and my mental health.’ Elizabeth Gray, a-n, May 2019.

The Art House graduate residencies are designed to offer recent fine art graduates (from partnering Universities) the opportunity to focus on developing flexible and personal approaches to arts practice. By recognising that there is not one single route to being a successful artist, or arts professional we help the residents build a range of skills to achieve the next steps in developing their practice.

Residents combine studio time with focused sessions on finding opportunities, applying for funding and other aspects of professional development, in addition to 1-2-1 tutoring with our programme team. We provide studio space and accommodation, as well as access to our Print Room facilities. Our residents also receive a small bursary and money for materials. The residencies are flexible and can adapt to each graduate’s specific needs and timetable.

By being in residence at The Art House graduates will work in a building with over 50 other professional artists, makers and creative businesses. They will therefore have the opportunity to build networks and gain experience of being in a working environment with other artists at different stages of their careers.

Residencies include field trips to other cities such as Sheffield, Leeds or Nottingham to see exhibitions and experience different art scenes. 1-2-1 mentoring sessions with visiting artists are also be made available.
