Sydney Thornbury – CEO/Artistic Director

About me
I was born in New York, raised in Los Angeles and lived for 25 years in London working in the arts – so obviously my next big move had to be Wakefield, which I love. I have always been passionate about the role that arts and culture can play in people’s lives and in our communities. I studied Theatre at Uni, but I was always an entrepreneur – my childhood lemon-aid stands had subsidiaries. For me, business and entrepreneurism have always just been additional tools I use to be creative and to try to make the world a better place.

Why TAH
When I first saw the job for CEO at The Art House, I knew it’s where I wanted to be. And the Trustees must have wanted me, because they said I could bring my dog to work. Obviously TAH had already achieved some pretty great things, but I just saw so much potential that was still there to be unleashed. I think The Art House, like all great organisations, now plays a really important role in the community. It’s a place where a diverse and disparate group of people can come together to engage in creative practice together, without any barriers. On top of that, the coffee in our cafe is really great ?.
