During the workshop, participants will explore the process and approach of making photograms in the darkroom.
A photogram is a cameraless photographic print, made by laying objects on top of photographic paper and exposing it to light. From this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the process and its history and have the opportunity to experiment with producing their own photograms.
Join practicing photographer and artist Emily Ryalls for an evening taster session on the photogram process. You’ll be taking influence from the masters, such as Man Ray and Anna Atkins, as we begin by digging into The Art House’s photobook library, before moving onto the print making process, experimenting with foliage, glass and stencils. You’ll leave this session having made your own refined silver gelatin photogram print.
Foliage, glass and stencils will be provided for a wide range of print making experimentations.
All darkroom-based workshops are classes of up to five, allowing for a more focused small group learning experience with our tutor.
Participants will create one or multiple photograms, taking home their 8×10″ silver gelatin print and feeling confident in returning to The Art House’s darkroom to refine their newly learnt techniques.
