Re-Emerge

The Art House is thrilled to provide a space for the incredible work created through our Arts and Health programme. The show, featuring ceramics, printmaking and photography, brings together work from our Maternal Journal and Arts and Wellbeing workshops.

Re-Emerge, as a project, provides opportunities for people to meet others, share experiences and engage in creative activity for wellbeing. The programme includes creative journaling, printmaking, ceramics, photography and painting and enables participants to gently explore creativity in a supportive and healthy setting. This exhibition celebrates a range of artworks produced by people across the Wakefield region for the Re-Emerge programme.

So far, the programme has worked with a number of participants from different backgrounds, including new mothers and pregnant women, parent groups and people living with dementia and their carers. The Art House is leading the project in collaboration with other partners including Spectrum People and their service users.

The exhibition showcases the inspirational creativity of programme participants and offers an opportunity for Artwalk visitors to try an activity for themselves and find out more about the project.

This unique display of work has been split into two parts. In Celebrating Motherhood, co-produced with women from the Maternal Journal workshops, we share stories, experiences and creative reflections. A zine was also developed in celebration of the work created in these sessions. In Arts for Wellbeing you will see artworks from across the programme, including ceramics, printmaking and photography.

This show initially opened as a one-night-only event that took place during July Artwalk 2022, Wakefield’s iconic bi-monthly night of culture. The work was so well-received that we decided to keep it on display throughout August, allowing TAH visitors to explore that talent and creativity of our Re-Emerge programme.

Re-Emerge is funded by the Leeds Hospitals Charity and NHS Charities Together. The Artwalk exhibition is funded by the University of Sheffield Faculty of Social Sciences.
