Regenerating Empty Spaces Through Community Engagement
Empty shops on our high streets are a growing challenge, not just a sign of change, but a wasted opportunity. We know that people make places, and when a space is active and cared for, it brings energy and life back into our town centres.
Well Placed is the bridge between empty spaces and the people who can make the most of them. Through the project, we connect landlords with artists, community groups, charities and social enterprises. Transforming vacant units into vibrant, purposeful places once again.
Well Placed projects are currently taking place in Wakefield, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, and Hull. Where we occupy thirty spaces across these areas, opening up vacant space for exhibitions, studio spaces, community workshops and other charitable activities.
If you have an idea, we want to hear about it!
If you need space, whether it’s to show your work, launch a project, or run community activities we want to hear from you. Our Well Placed spaces are about trying ideas out, making things happen, and making our town centres thrive.

FAQs
Well Placed, like The Art House, exists to support artists, creatives and the community. So your project needs to align with our charitable aims and ethos. We have worked with fantastic charities, social enterprises and local grassroots community initiatives. Some examples include food banks, artist studios, and registered CICs.
Due to the nature of the Well Placed project each space we occupy varies from the next, all having quite individual characteristics and quirks. We charge an affordable monthly set fee reflecting the spaces spec, this varies from £100 – £400 per month. The set fee is a contribution to the spaces running costs, including your utility usage and building service charges.
Our spaces are temporary, and are only available for us to use until a commercial tenant is found by the owners. Sometimes this is as little as 1 month, but we have also had spaces for 4 years! As a space user, you have to be prepared for the unexpected and be as flexible as possible but The Art House will be there to support you whatever happens.
Partnerships with Meaning.
We’re passionate about developing projects and partnerships locally and nationally that make a difference and truly mean something to the people involved. If you work within property/development, and would like to chat more about what we could create together we’d love to hear from you.
