Selected as the final artist in residence of The Art House’s 2017-18 residency programme, Brinkmann is based at The Art House from the 01 – 31 March 2018. The artist is working at a number of fabrication sites in West Yorkshire as well as in a studio at The Art House in Wakefield.
Working with a palette of materials including steel, leather and latex, Brinkmann refers to her process of making sculpture as similar to the composition of music; using items such as metal handrails as a structured beat or rhythm to underpin the work.
Brinkmann’s sculptural practice repositions familiar objects and materials, readdressing or questioning their intended context and connotations. Override represents both an experimentation with new materials and a reconfiguration or expansion of previous works including those developed during her 2017 residency at Fondazione Per L’Arte, Rome.
