Join local artist and printmaker Kirstie Williams on this one-day workshop, to discover the beauty of cyanotype printmaking –one of photography’s oldest techniques.

This simple process uses the power of sunlight, to create striking blue-and-white prints from natural objects, found materials, or photographic negatives. In this session we’ll be using a variety of found objects and foliage.

You’ll learn how to prepare light-sensitive surfaces, compose your designs, and develop your prints in water. We will use our UV exposure unit in the Print Studio, as well as (hopefully!) some sunshine to develop prints using the sun.

You’ll come away with at least ten individual cyanotype prints onto A5 paper and textile samples, making the perfect home decorations, cards or gifts to loved ones.

This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, encouraging experimentation and creative play. All materials are provided but feel free to bring along any small objects you’d like to include in your prints.

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and anyone interested in simple photographic printing techniques. Those with previous experience of printmaking may wish to use the day to explore a new technique and gain tutor advice and guidance.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided. If you have any thin objects such as lace, threads, beads, leaves, buttons etc then feel free to bring them along to experiment with. Please wear old clothes in case you get mucky and shoes with covered toes in the print studio.
