Explore drawing and painting on this six-week course and learn the techniques needed to start you on your artistic journey.

You will be guided step by step through a variety of drawing and painting techniques through the study of still life, portraiture and landscapes.

  • You will start by exploring basic drawing techniques from reference to still life objects. Gradually, you will learn how to introduce tone and colour to create a still life painting.
  • We will then move onto Portraiture, focusing on proportions of the face before developing a portrait in paint and/or pastels.
  • Lastly, we will study landscapes to explore painting in more depth and allowing more freedom of expression through depicting light, weather and seasons.

By the end of the course participants will have a great knowledge of drawing and painting techniques and a growing understanding of their individual style and strengths for further development.

  • Who is the course for?

The course is ideal for early-stage artists and those wishing to build confidence with drawing and painting with tutor advice and guidance.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

We will provide the basic materials for you to complete this course (This includes: easel, board, selection of papers, willow charcoal, white chalk, graphite pencils, putty eraser, daler rowney acrylic paints, small selection of hog hair brushes) A list of recommended, better-quality materials will be circulated to participants before the course starts if you wish to purchase your own materials and continue to work from home in the future.

  • Working Safely

We have made some changes to ensure everyone feels confident and safe to take part in a workshop without fear of catching Coronavirus. Our courses are running with fewer participants to allow plenty of room for social distancing. In line with government guidance we are also requesting that students attend with a mask or face covering. We hope that being able to immerse yourself with something creative will help to restore a sense of wellbeing and hopefulness as we navigate the new normal. If you have any concerns or specific requirements regarding attending a course please feel free to get in touch with us by emailing: info@the-arthouse.org.uk

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. Our workshops support the work we do as a charity, and because materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

We can also offer the option to transfer to another course or transfer your ticket to a friend or relative in the event that you can’t attend a workshop and course.

If The Art House needs to cancel a workshop for any reason, for example due to tutor illness or if lockdown measures are put back in place your ticket will be refunded in full.
