Skillshare is a reoccurring event, every Tuesday at The Art House between 11:00–13:00.
Since 2017 The Art House have been a Studio of Sanctuary, using art, culture and creative processes to bring all people together. This includes people in the asylum process and refugees with the wider Wakefield population. Working creatively and learning about each other we offer friendship, and integration for all communities.
Every Tuesday between 11:00–13:00 you are invited everyone to join a free, relaxed, drop-in Skillshare workshop to learn and share new and traditional crafts.
Integral to the sessions is the ethos of re-use, upcycle and repair. Each culture has a slightly different way of practicing handicrafts and these sessions allow you to explore this. Regardless of language the sessions help people to keep alive crafts and techniques. Though many of the skills involve textiles the sessions also includes the sharing cultural knowledge, making community connections and finding new friendships.
Try your hand at sharing or learning a new creative skill in these inclusive and friendly sessions. Beginners and people curious about skill sharing are all welcome.
Skillshare sessions are free and open to all communities.
In addition to our Skillshare sessions we have a selection of other free, regular activities to get involved in. Take a look at our Talk and Draw sessions, Gardening Club or Family Crafts!
