Lois Palframan is an artist who is heavily influenced by dreams, her early experiences with music and her parent’s journey as Christian missionaries. With a degree in Environmental Science and an MA in Art, Palframan’s practice has become refined in mark-making through the process of improvisation.
20 Drawings was Palframan’s first solo exhibition at The Art House showcasing a collection of delicate, small-scale artworks that invite viewers into the quiet world of dreams and nocturnal visions. Each piece is a momentary glimpse into the fleeting, semi-conscious state of the artist’s mind, capturing ephemeral images that appear and dissolve in the liminal space between sleep and wakefulness.
Palframan is fascinated by how humans often try to piece together the images from dreams to help them make sense of the human conscious state. Instead, Palframan seeks to draw what she sees in her conscious mind, documenting the fleeting and sometimes partially formed images. Using watercolour paper, natural paints, and various recycled pencils to create her art, Palframan creates drawings that are delicate and minimalist, incorporating pale splashes of colour, and offering an insight into the artist’s mind.
