Creative Catch-Ups for Wakefield-based Artists, Disabled Artists and Artists with Lived Experience of Seeking Sanctuary
The Art House invites you to book a free Creative Catch-Up with our Programme Curator and Co-Executive Director, Damon Jackson-Waldock.
These private, informal 1-to-1 sessions are a chance to share your work, ask questions, and get tailored support. You might want advice on funding applications, feedback on your portfolio or website, guidance on approaching curators and galleries, or help navigating your next steps. The conversation will be shaped around what you need most.
Who Can Book?
You are eligible to book if you identify as any of the following:
-
A Wakefield-based artist or creative
-
A disabled artist (based anywhere in the UK)
-
An artist with lived experience of displacement, exile, or the asylum system, including those who have sought sanctuary, are refugees, and those currently in the asylum process (based anywhere in the UK)
Where
Sessions will take place at The Art House in Wakefield for anyone local who would like to meet in person.
If you are based further away or prefer not to travel, we’re very happy to host the session online via Google Meet/Zoom or similar.
When
-
Wednesday 23 July 2025
-
Wednesday 27 August 2025
-
Wednesday 17 September 2025
– Sessions run between 8am and 8pm on each date, with each 1:1 lasting up to 50 minutes.
– There are 36 sessions available in total — 12 on each date.
– To ensure the opportunity is meaningfully distributed, we are reserving 12 places for each group: Wakefield-based / disabled / those who have sought sanctuary.
If any group’s places are not fully filled, we will offer remaining slots to eligible applicants from the other groups.
How to Take Part
To make the process as fair as possible, we’re asking people to complete a very short Expression of Interest form.
This helps us make sure the sessions are the right fit and allows us to support a broad mix of practices and backgrounds.
You’ll be asked to:
-
Select the date(s) you’re available
- If you would like to meet in person at The Art House, or online
-
Tell us a little about your creative practice. Or if easier, just share your bio/webpage / social media
-
Share a very short sentence on how a 1-to-1 session would be useful to you
- :et us know about any access support you may need e.g. masks, social distancing, or a support worker present.
There is no final deadline to express interest, but we recommend applying early, before the first session on 23 July – spaces are limited and slots will get booked up in advance. Submit your expression of interest here.
Access
When filling in the Expression of Interest form your responses don’t have to be polished or formal.
We welcome applications from people who face access barriers, and will offer support if needed.
If completing the written Expression of Interest form is a barrier, we also welcome you to submit your answers by audio or video within the form.
