Fancy trying something new and making time for a little creativity? Join us for a playful, hands-on introduction to gel plate printing in our professional Print Studio, working in a small, friendly group alongside local printmaking artist Rachel Richardson, aka Bobshaped.

Using soft gel printing plates, you’ll discover how to create vibrant, layered monoprints with acrylic paints, textures and found materials, all without the need for a printing press. You’ll experiment with colour, pattern and composition, exploring different mark-making tools and techniques to create prints that are wonderfully individual, often with unexpected results.

There’s no need for previous printmaking experience or to arrive with a finished idea. This is an opportunity to slow down, get creative with materials and enjoy the freedom of experimenting. You’ll have plenty of time to play with different combinations, see what happens and discover the possibilities of this accessible and satisfying process.

Working alongside others in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, you can share ideas, swap inspiration and enjoy a little creative time away from the everyday. Whether you’re looking to explore a new hobby, reconnect with your creative side or simply spend some time making something by hand, this workshop is all about having a go and enjoying the process.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a collection of unique A4 monoprints to take home, along with the skills and confidence to continue exploring gel plate printing in your own time.

    Who is this workshop for?

This session is aimed at beginners, so don’t worry if you’ve never done printmaking before. It is also suitable if you have some previous experience but would like to try a new technique and gain some new inspiration.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided. If you have any thin objects such as lace, threads, leaves, etc then feel free to bring them along to experiment with. We recommend wearing old clothes in case you get a bit inky! Please wear sensible shoes with a covered toe – so no sandals, ballet shoes or high heels in the print studio.
