Making a difference one space at a time.
Makey Wakey started back in 2019, a solution to two problems by two different partners. The Art House was at capacity, with 50 artist studios bursting at the seams, meanwhile our local shopping centre had the opposite problem, lots of space and not enough people. A collaborative partnership began, we were trusted with 6 spaces in the shopping centre which throughout 2020 quickly grew to 21 spaces, filled with temporary exhibitions, installations, studio spaces, and other not-for-profit projects. Over the past 5 years, Makey Wakey has supported approximately 135 different organisations with free space.
What now?
Makey Wakey is currently winding down, like each individual space we use, our Well Placed projects are temporary by nature. We’re currently working with partners across the city to help our space users to find alternative spaces and support them with the next steps on their journey.
