Mock Tudors and Good News | Gig Night

29 August 2025 07:30 - 29 August 2025 23:00

Organised by Mike Ainsley, Amy Lilley and Aaron Hurst-Wilson (Vinyl Social Wakefield) The Art House gallery space is being taken over for another Indie gig night on 29th August, where Sheffield bands Mock Tudors and Good News will play their Wakefield debut!

Mock Tudors
South Yorkshire’s answer to Buzzcocks meet The Sweet. Mock Tudors’ frenetic glam infused garage-rock oozed from the basement of ‘Delicious Clam’ in Sheffield in January of 2022. Since then the band have released a set of EP’s alongside a bootleg LP, toured extensively with the likes of The Bug Club & The Futureheads, and played live in session twice for BBC 6 music.
With songs about everything from domestic recycling politics (Bin Day), to a PTA meeting gone awry (Nutbush Coffee Morning) Mock Tudors write it, so you don’t have to.

The band’s truly DIY approach sees them creating everything in-house, from music videos and artwork to handmade leather and ceramic merchandise. This band is a semi-professional Tudor cottage industry… just don’t tell the Lord of the manor.

Good News
Sheffield’s resident wonky-popskis Good News released their debut album Small Forms via Bingo Records on September 13 – 2024 supported by headline UK tour.

First singles out the gates are double a-sides ‘Orange Juice In The Shower’ b/w ‘Tits’, a pair of tracks which set the tone for an album as bristling with lean pop hooks as it is with caustic socio-political barbs. ‘Orange Juice…’ looks at domestic relationships while ‘Tits’ looks outwards, dishing out withering criticism much further reaching than its 1:39 run time would seemingly allow. Treated bass and eczema-dry percussion carry the music, rhythm first, delivering taut missives accented by discordant clarinet and guitar. Good News epitomise the concept of making a point and not sticking around too long.

Recorded in a studio built in the band’s attic with in-house Bingo Records producer Zac Barfoot, Small Forms follows their 2023 debut EP Same As That, which earned the band a live session with Marc Riley & Gideon Coe (BBC 6 Music). Since then, their feisty clarinet, bass, and cowbell-propelled rhythms have bounced around the North & London supporting The Bug Club, Kid Congo & The Pink Monkeybirds, Wesley Gonzalez & Wild Garlic and Acid Klaus.
