Relive Wakefield’s historic 2025 Reclaim the Night march through an exhibition that celebrates collective action, solidarity and the ongoing fight for safer streets.
The Tiled Gallery will be transformed using film footage, handmade banners created by participants, and sound. Central to the exhibition is a large commissioned banner by Artist and Designer Ellie Way. The project honours both the energy of the night itself and its lasting legacy, and offers opportunities to learn more about how to support work to end violence against women and girls. Together, these materials tell a story of community-led resistance, care and hope, grounded in local voices and lived experience.
Wakefield Reclaim the Night is brought together by a collective of individuals and organisations committed to making public spaces safer for everyone. The group includes Councillors Natalie Walton, Maureen Cummings, Gwen Paige and Helen Antcliffe, alongside organisations: Blossom Training and Development CIC and Ambassadors, Mokkha CIC and Empath Theatre CIC.
The programme has been supported and championed by UAL Level 3 Film and TV and BA Hons Art and Design (Arts Practice) students and staff at The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group – Wakefield College, with additional support from Wakefield Council. The march and associated workshops were supported with funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
This exhibition sits within The Art House’s wider Spring/Summer 2026 programme, foregrounding collective making, civic action and the power of creative expression as tools for social change.
