Photovoices is a new Creative Health programme supporting young women aged 16–25 to explore their mental health through photography, printmaking, journaling and visual storytelling.
Starting in Autumn 2026, the programme will run over three years, with five groups of young women each taking part in a 20-week course.
Together, we’ll explore a wide variety of art forms, discover different ways to express ideas and experiences, and connect with others. You’ll help shape the weekly sessions by sharing your own interests and experiences, helping to co-design the activities.
Each course will include sessions with visiting artists, giving you the chance to explore the wide range of creative opportunities available, whether as hobbies or careers.
Between weekly sessions, you’ll be encouraged to continue your creative journey with suggested activities to try at home. There will also be an online platform where you can share your ideas and creative work with other participants.
Throughout the programme, our specialist partner The Youth Association provide mental health and wellbeing support. You’ll have the opportunity to develop an individual wellbeing plan, and access to regular telephone check-ins. They will also attend several of the weekly sessions.
Photovoices is led by our Arts and Health Manager, Diane Saxon, alongside Darkroom Programme Coordinator and Artist, Emily Ryalls. Together, they bring artist-led creative practice and extensive experience of supporting young people, working alongside specialist wellbeing practitioners from The Youth Association.
If you’d like to find out more, Diane and Emily would be happy to chat with you about the programme. We can also visit groups that you already attend, or you can arrange a visit to The Art House to learn more about Photovoices and see our spaces.
