A Gift from The Art House

A collaborative project that celebrates creativity and brings us together through art! In December 2020 one thousand Gift Boxes were created by artists and distributed to children throughout Wakefield.
Celebration event: The Award for Civic Arts Organisations 2022

On 23 March, organisations from around the country gathered via live stream to celebrate the exemplary civic work pioneered by arts organisations in the UK in the last two years of disruption. The ceremony highlighted the 10 organisations shortlisted for the Award and announced recipients, including The Art House as the recipient of the main £100,000 award!
The Award is an initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch) and King’s College London.

The Art House and Neon Workshops partnered to bring the work of neon artist Fred Tschida to Europe for the first time in 2021.

The exhibition was supported using public funding by Arts Council England. Additional support from Wakefield Council.

Everything Is Still Floating is an exhibition of new work by artist Jill McKnight, developed over the course of a two-month residency at The Art House.
The show, which can be seen evolving in the gallery throughout July, presents a mix of sculpture, prints, works on paper, writing, and audio work. Each piece explores themes familiar to McKnight’s practice – feminism, the working-class experience, the connection between traditional industries and domestic life – whilst weaving the artist’s personal, familial and community stories through the exhibition.

The annual ROSL International Residency with The Art House invites two early career artists living and working in commonwealth countries for an eight week residency in UK, between London and Wakefield.
This year Cole Ndelu and Dimple B. Shah were selected by a panel of curators and professionals from ROSL, The Art House, The Tetley and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

London-based sculptor Laura Yuile was in residence at The Art House throughout July 2019. A Brick Tunnel with a Concrete Floor (on display from 01 August to 12 October 2019), presents new works by Laura Yuile alongside works from the Arts Council Collection. Curated by Lauren Velvick.
