Introduction to Modern Quilting

Join us for an introduction to all things quilting!
With your tutor, you will work through the steps to make a quilted square, starting with choosing fabric and patterns, to finally making your own binding. You’ll be using these techniques to make a 30x30cm mini quilt in your choice of fabrics and colours to take home with you and proudly display as a table centrepiece.

Students are required to bring their own sewing machine and it must be in good working order. If you want to attend but don’t have a sewing machine, please get in touch prior to booking and we may be able to provide one to borrow. All fabrics, threads and other materials are provided.

Process Information:
-Choosing fabrics and complimentary colours
-Researching traditional patterns
-Cutting fabric accurately
-Piecing the top quilt pieces
-Pressing open seams
-Sandwiching your quilt top and backing securely
-Quilting by machine and hand
-Making binding
-Finishing and embellishing.

With all these skills you’ll then be equipped to make any kind of quilt at home, from cushions and jackets to bed throws.
