Monotype Printmaking

Join artist Zoë Carlon for a fun, hands-on introduction to the magic of oil monotype printing.

You’ll paint straight onto a metal plate, run it through the printing press, then peel back the paper to reveal a completely unique print.

Zoë will introduce you to the process, share inspiring examples from other artists, and show you different ways to layer colour, create texture and make bold, unexpected marks. There’s no pressure to make something ‘perfect’ and no previous printmaking experience is needed.

You’ll have plenty of time to play with the materials and develop your own ideas before discovering the surprises that make monotype such an exciting way to work.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a collection of your own original and unique oil monotype prints to take home with you, each one impossible to reproduce in exactly the same way.

No previous printmaking experience is needed. This workshop is perfect if you’ve never tried monotype before. Part of the fun of monotype is the element of surprise. You won’t know exactly how your image will translate until you lift the paper from the plate.

Spend the day making alongside Wakefield-born artist Zoë Carlon and get a glimpse into her own creative process as she shares the techniques and ideas behind her work.

Zoë has exhibited her work internationally, from London and Berlin to New York and Mexico City, with work held in the UK Government Art Collection. Her practice spans painting, drawing and printmaking, with her recent work exploring oil monotype alongside her distinctive oil paintings on aluminium.
