Behnaz Fatemi

08 May 2025 - 07 July 2025

The Art House is excited to announce its latest selected international residency artists – Behnaz Fatemi and Geovanni Barrios.

Behnaz Fatemi is a multidisciplinary artist who works across performance, drawing, video, and installation. Born in Iran and now living in Canada, Fatemi explores themes of displacement, mourning, the politics of care, as well as resistance and the notion of the third space- social environments outside the home where people can gather, interact and build community. She uses simple, everyday materials such as graphite, paper, fabric, and her own body to explore memory, trauma, and healing.

Fatemi has exhibited internationally including the US, Canada and Iran, and was the recipient of the Emerging Artist Award from Arts Awards Waterloo Region (2021).

During her time on residency in Wakefield, Fatemi will explore wearable sound objects inspired by ancient Iranian artifacts, examining themes of movement, memory, and cultural identity.

Fatemi will be joined by Geovanni Barrios at The Art House this summer for their International residency in partnership with the Royal Over-Seas League. The artists will be given the time, mentoring and networking opportunities to develop their creative practices for the first time in the UK.
