The Art House is excited to announce its latest selected international residency artists – Geovanni Barrios and Behnaz Fatemi.
Geovanni ‘Geo’ Barrios is a multidisciplinary artist and musician whose work explores identity, masculinity, and American mythologies. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, he began his creative practice as a trained orchestral tubist before transitioning into performance, visual art, and research-based practice.
Geo holds a BA in Art History from Yale University and has worked in conservation at institutions such as the Yale University Art Gallery and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These experiences with historical artifacts and preservation techniques continue to shape his practice which spans across drawing, sculpture, sound, and installation.
Geo has exhibited across the United States, including the Ely Centre for Contemporary Art and the Yale University Art Gallery, as well as internationally in Mexico, Brazil, and Germany.
During the residency period, he will spend time exploring the Boy Scouts’ homophobic policies in the early 90s and the effect this has had on his life as a young gay man.
Geo will join Behnaz Fatemi at The Art House this summer for their International residency in partnership with the Royal Over-Seas League. The artists will be given the time, mentoring and networking opportunities to develop their creative practices for the first time in the UK. Alongside access to The Art House’s accessible Maker Spaces.
