Weaving using Traditional Table Looms

Discover the art of weaving with the guidance of local Textile Artist and Weaver Agnis Smallwood.
Using a traditional eight-shaft table loom, you’ll explore the possibilities of colour, texture and yarn as you weave your own beautiful scarf or snood to take home.

With your loom already set up and ready to use, you’ll have the whole day to immerse yourself in the weaving process. You’ll be introduced to the techniques needed to get started, with group demonstrations and individual guidance from Agnis throughout the day. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore a variety of yarns, choosing from different fibres, colours and textures to create a piece that reflects your own style.

Working in a friendly, mixed-ability group, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and learn at your own pace. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have your own handwoven scarf or snood, along with new skills and inspiration to continue exploring the world of textiles.

Whether you’re completely new to weaving or have some previous experience, this workshop offers a welcoming space to learn new skills, experiment with materials and enjoy the process of creating something by hand.

Please note: Weaving throughout the day can be a physical activity, and participants often choose to stand while working at the looms, although sitting is also an option. Please consider what will be comfortable for you over the course of the day.
