Rich White was Artist in Residence at The Art House from 3 – 31 January 2018. During his residency, White set himself a series of rules to start making new work that differed from the large physical sculptures and installations he usually created. White set out to create drawings using only paper, ink and water but made them in a similar way to how he approaches his sculpture – through the use of simple actions repeated over and over again with an element of randomness or chance. The results were exhibited in Rich White: Conspiracy, from 31 January until 9 March 2018
This residency also marks a return to studio practice for White, who has worked without a dedicated studio since graduating in 1998. The experience of having time and space to focus on drawing has allowed him to explore new dimensions of his art, bridging the gap between his sculptural and graphic practices.
