SOME YOU WIN, SOME YOU LOSE was an exhibition of paintings and prints by Huddersfield-based artist, Duncan Pearson.
Duncan Pearson was The Art House’s first SOME TIMES resident artist of 2014. Pearson’s images contain a cartoon element, developed from an early interest in comic strips and animation. When creating work, he describes himself as never happy repeating himself and strives continually to explore new methods and ideas.
Pearson lists his influences as including Philip Guston and the later work of Pablo Picasso. This – combined with an early interest in comic strips and animation – results in work that is full of colour and humour. Pearson dislikes “tidy lines” which gives his work a playful, sometimes frantic, energy.
The work exhibited in the exhibition represents some of the results of a month-long residency at The Art House, during which time the artist experimented with printing techniques in our Print Studio.
